Running - or rather, not running!

Had to go to the doctor at the start of the week as my ankle had become very painful and a bit swollen. Apparently I've damaged a ligament most likely during the course of the post Christmas parkrun at Shrewsbury. The doctor has said I'm not allowed to do any more running for at least 6 weeks and she's booked me in for physio in 4 weeks if I'm still in pain with it. I've had dire warnings from her and a few other people into running about the consequences of running again before it's properly healed emoticon

It's a right pain in the ....ankle as I had just started running late last year and was enjoying it. We're in perfect trail running country here and I'd just bought some canicross kit (belt and harness) so I can go running with our 13 month old lurcher, Mabel, but it looks like it'll be the end of February before I can do that now. emoticon Image

sorry to hear that gary, best do what the doc says other wise it may not heal properly, good tip is bathe it in warm water, then ice packs twice daily, done this when i played football, the hot softens the ligaments and they move to where they should be,then the cold ice makes them stay in position, also eases the pain, have been thru loads of knee ligament probs, also keep it raised when sitting, hope it heals quick and well mate. emoticon

Re started my running again now. Been running just a couple of miles every 2 or 3 days for the last couple of weeks and all seems to be good so did a 4.5 mile run today, mostly off road. I took it very steadily as the ankle still is not 100%, but no real problems on the way round. The new trail shoes were great as well.

It was a gorgeous day to be out running too, perfect weather and, as always around here, spectacular views.

Off into Shrewsbury on Saturday morning for my first parkrun since doing my ankle in there just after Christmas. It'll be a gentle jog round with no heroics!

Back into the running properly now and the ankle is completely healed.

Did a 4.5 mile run last week along with a couple of 2.5 mile runs, 5k parkrun last weekend and a 6 mile run the day after. 3 more 2.5 mile runs week just gone and the 5k parkrun again yesterday. New pb there too - 25m 33s - about which I am very well pleased. Ankles are not giving my so much as a twinge.

Got a cross country style run next Sunday. It's only a 5k as I'm running it with my girls while my wife does the 10k run.

I'll probably go and do the parkrun again the day before and see if I can get a sub 25 minute run this time.

Well, been a series of injuries over the last few months, calf muscle, ankle, and then a recurring back injury. All now completely healed I'm pleased to say so for the last 3 or 4 weeks I've been back into the running properly.

I have a regular 2.25m route, a mix of trail and road with a climb of 383ft (all within the first half mile!) I got my first sub 20 minute circuit last week. emoticon Next target I suppose is going to be under 19 minutes but I think that is going to take a while as I am now into shaving seconds of the time.

My Shrewsbury parkrun times now seem to be just under 25 minutes for the 5km so a sub 24 minute run has to be the aim there.

Enjoying being back at the running again. It is definitely an addictive thing!
