Had drained the tank and carbs before putting it off the road, also had battery on a maintenance charger. Put in battery and fresh fuel and she fired up right away Checked tyre pressures and went for a spin, running and riding as it should. Got too many projects on the go just no so thinking about selling the bike, don't know what to ask for it as these don't come up for sale in decent condition very often.nondisclosed_email@example.com (guernseyshire)Sun, 05 Apr 2015 18:55:19 +0000 Re: What did you do to your bike today?https://bgsxr400.runboard.com/p2000393,from=rss#post2000393https://bgsxr400.runboard.com/p2000393,from=rss#post2000393Put the SV up on the paddock stands and plugged in the Accumate charger just to keep the battery in good condition. Take photos as you go if you are unsure and that way you'll be able to see how it all goes back together. Rode the bike over to Newtown today for my language class. Just arrived there as the rain started but had to wear the waterproofs to come back. At least all the rain has washed the salt off the roads. Still washed the bike down quickly with a couple of buckets of cold water though just to get the muck and grit off of it. Interestingly, about an hour before I started the bike I went out and hooked the Accumate up to the charging lead as the bike had sat with the alarm on for a week without being started. The battery is a budget gel battery I bought and fitted back in 2011 and I thought it might have been pretty discharged but in fact the green light on the charger came up within a few minutes and when I started the bike the battery spun the engine over pretty briskly and started it with no fuss. We'll see if it lasts another winter!nondisclosed_email@example.com (garynortheast)Wed, 10 Dec 2014 20:52:19 +0000 Re: What did you do to your bike today?https://bgsxr400.runboard.com/p2000385,from=rss#post2000385https://bgsxr400.runboard.com/p2000385,from=rss#post2000385yes mate the roads are salted and sometimes greasey over here, will start my service this weekend as i have been busy with work, being totally useless the first thing is taking off the fairing lowers,is there anything special or is it just unscrew the bolts, haha, what a numpty, nondisclosed_email@example.com (tootler)Wed, 10 Dec 2014 10:10:15 +0000 Re: What did you do to your bike today?https://bgsxr400.runboard.com/p2000384,from=rss#post2000384https://bgsxr400.runboard.com/p2000384,from=rss#post2000384Rode it to a couple of jobs and then had to wash it off with a few buckets of cold water as the roads here are now well salted! nondisclosed_email@example.com (garynortheast)Fri, 05 Dec 2014 21:57:38 +0000 Re: What did you do to your bike today?https://bgsxr400.runboard.com/p2000367,from=rss#post2000367https://bgsxr400.runboard.com/p2000367,from=rss#post2000367lucky guy, being a joiner, chippy,i cant take my bike to work,i couldnt carry the tools,ha,there is a pair of battleaxe intermediate race tyres on the zx6,there are no chicken strips on them, but thats not my doing, real grippy tyre. nondisclosed_email@example.com (tootler)Thu, 11 Sep 2014 15:36:37 +0000 Re: What did you do to your bike today?https://bgsxr400.runboard.com/p2000366,from=rss#post2000366https://bgsxr400.runboard.com/p2000366,from=rss#post2000366New tyres fitted yesterday, a pair of the Metzeler Z6 Roadtecs. Great tyres, handling characteristics remind me of the Pirelli Diablo Strada with their very quick response. Also did a little mod to the SV. There are two wires going to the CDI unit which are there to suppress performance and exhaust note in 2nd and 3rd gears, so I did what dozens of other curvy model SV owners have done before me and disconnected them. It hasn't made that much difference but it is noticeable. Rode the bike to a few jobs today and the tyres are now nicely scrubbed in!nondisclosed_email@example.com (garynortheast)Wed, 10 Sep 2014 21:46:49 +0000 Re: What did you do to your bike today?https://bgsxr400.runboard.com/p2000343,from=rss#post2000343https://bgsxr400.runboard.com/p2000343,from=rss#post2000343Did an oil and filter change, refilled the Scottoiler and then gave it a serious clean! I ran it for about 4 years I think and if I recall correctly, it had 13000 miles when I acquired it. I did do some long runs on it as well as using it on a daily basis. I took it all around the Balkans on one excursion, down through France and around the Pyrenees on two other occasions, and up to the Lake District and around Scotland on a couple of other trips. My 14 year old SV650s has gone from 19500 miles when I bought it in 2010 up to 49500 miles to date. Not been abroad on it yet although I am hoping to get down to the Pyrenees on it maybe next year. Lots of long weekend and day runs though, trips up to the Lake District (typically 400 miles + in a day)and Yorkshire as well as regular runs on some of the sublime roads here in Wales. I use the bike for getting about to jobs on too, in preference to the car. I don't deliberately set out to ride for pleasure in the rain, but I do have decent waterproof kit so the weather doesn't really deter me too much. I was out in the pouring rain on it today, rode it to my language class and then into a nearby town to collect an item I had ordered online. The bike is due a good clean now though....nondisclosed_email@example.com (garynortheast)Wed, 04 Jun 2014 18:53:20 +0000 Re: What did you do to your bike today?https://bgsxr400.runboard.com/p2000317,from=rss#post2000317https://bgsxr400.runboard.com/p2000317,from=rss#post2000317Not much because it's been raining all day (uncharacteristic even during the monsoon season). Might go downstairs though soon and wash my restored '92 Honda AX-1, which just came back from getting a good carb clean (switched back to benzyne after using *hit gasohol for about a year), new foot pegs, spark plug, heavier front fork oil and new gators -- she's running and looking good, as I hope the gixxer will be within next month or two. Gary about how many miles does your bike have on it? I gotta say hats off to UK riders, overall you've got to be at or near the top of world's toughest riders on a yearly basis, due to both inclement weather and your love for 2 wheels I reckon. The most I have to deal with here is some rainy days or intermittent showers during the monsoon season -- and being a medically un-certified motorcycle cleanaholic, I usually don't ride my big bikes when it's raining or even threatening to rain (not to mention the roads here are crazy enough without having to deal with local drivers on slippery roads). If it's raining I either use the little Honda Click scooter for quick trips or call one of my taxi guys. So again I really can't help but admire your fortitude out that way.nondisclosed_email@example.com (phuketgsxr400)Wed, 04 Jun 2014 09:31:14 +0000 Re: What did you do to your bike today?https://bgsxr400.runboard.com/p2000264,from=rss#post2000264https://bgsxr400.runboard.com/p2000264,from=rss#post2000264Rode it yesterday then put it away! Came back down a favourite piece of road and nearly overcooked it on a bend, trying to avoid a patch of gravel in the road just where I wanted to be! Just managed to avoid the white van coming the other way. On the plus side.... It was warm enough to ride without the windproof mid-layers under my leathers. I was also able to leave the silk inners out of my gloves, in fact I wore my summer gloves, and I wore just my thin buff instead of the fleecy windproof one. The symptoms were pretty weird. There was a harsh note to the engine under any sort of load, almost a mechanical sound. I suspect it was "knocking" mildly under load, because of the contamination. I had visions, initially, of having to pull the top off of the engine to check the valve train/pistons/bores/small ends, but I'm relieved to say it's fine now.nondisclosed_email@example.com (garynortheast)Sun, 10 Mar 2013 09:38:03 +0000 Re: What did you do to your bike today?https://bgsxr400.runboard.com/p1999967,from=rss#post1999967https://bgsxr400.runboard.com/p1999967,from=rss#post1999967quote:garynortheast wrote: Had a bit of a look at it today, up on the paddock stands in the garage. I washed it and resprayed it with FS365 a short while back and haven't ridden it since. When I went back out to the garage to check on it I could see some steam rising from the front of the bike and when I investigated further I found liquid dripping off of the horn and bottom yoke. My first thought was, "Sh!t! Rad leak, pressurised coolant squirting out!". But when I took a closer look I realised, much to my relief, that it was water from the wash, and FS365 dripping off a couple of the flat surfaces on the bike and onto the rad.
