hi... name is sebastiaan, 29 years old and after driven about 15 bikes (street and track/races) ive bought a derestricted gsxr 400 from 1991..
Reason why is a long story.
Always drove with 1000's (track and street)and a 400 is a ..choice not many people make :P

well i didnt costed much (about 700 pounds) and had new tyres, chain/sprockets and brakes.
The guy told me it has a valve clearance check and new fluids [sign in to see URL] didnt trust it so did it myself last week. Also did the orings already (original ones with other gaskets).
It didnt run good after the guy mounted a carbon end can on it. so it had to be adjusted. Well..... im a mechanic and have a co meter on my work so tried to justed it and after a half hour it responded good when jerking the throttle. (before is stalled around 5k tpm).
So tracksuit pulled on (coming off the basement) and finally a bit sun on the street i took it off for a first ride (bought it without a testdrive). warming up for about 10-12 km's i opened the throttle [sign in to see URL] drives really funny!!!! its a lot of fun steering with it and having it around the [sign in to see URL] pulls fantasticly good for a light enginebike.
It only stalls a bit around 13.5 k rpm for a moment and then till the end it goes ok.
So have to take it on a dyno...
drovce about 35 km's with a top of 150 km's .. (allowed 70 km)
Also noticed space at the steering stem (got new ones, adjusting+greasing didnt helped) and sometimes it doesnt realy want to goes in neutral gear).
Perhaps, sticky clutchplates?? (have good ones in my basement).

[sign in to see URL] ebay and bought a few things for it.
*new headers
*new engine case with gasket+head gasket
*japanese manual
*rearpegs for the missus

and a new JE piston big bore kit with a lot of more (including spare cilliinderbarrel)..
didnt pay much for it emoticonemoticon

[sign in to see URL] a few weeks (perhaps months :P:P) in gonna mount it in the gk76a....
with stock headers (maybe a full system but hard to find) and stock carbs.
[sign in to see URL] mounting a 750 front (adjustable) fork in the future because the OE one is like a spunge:P

Hi Sebastion and welcome along.

Good little bike the 76a but carbs are very sensitive to the knackered o rings. Did you change the ones on the slow running adjuster screws?

Forks should be pretty good, they may need the oil, seals and bushes changing though. 10 weight oil is what you need in there.

you mean the little ones for the mixture screw??
[sign in to see URL] them al. 5 orings per carb (used 4 originals + one from a viton oringkit).
Also the bowl gasket and the one that is between the jetholder/upperpart of the carb...

tomorrow im gonna put 4 new cr8ek plugs in it. revving without a problem till 13.5 k rpm ok and then stalling a bit is very weird. Good be a carb problem but i have used the standard jets (100 mainjet) and the floatheight is 20 mm (jsut tipping the [sign in to see URL] compressing it). perhasps the coil leads?? Or the coils itselfs?? Looks to me a ignitionproblem.
Under heayy use/compression sparkplugs can fail..

can change the oil yes and seals but is isnt leaking.
are the bushes a weak point??

hm. i had kinda the same problem around that area 13-14k rpm and a carb resetting and valve clearances at the same time fixed it completely. I 'd say maybe recheck your valves? I had to check them twice because I did 'em so wasted a couple of hours but got it sorted. Btw my valve clearances are all up to 20mm inlet and 25mm exhaust.

oh and consider cutting down those bushes as well emoticon
