Hey scobby666, yeah it's a small world sometime, drop me a line if you're ever down Phuket way, might let you take out the gixxer while I jump on the NSR, been wondering for a while which of the two is really faster through Phuket's twisties emoticon

Just went to Hua Hin for business a couple of weeks ago to conduct a team building program with 200 pax from Honda (nice to get back some of the money I've invested in their bikes over the yearsemoticon. If I didn't live in Phuket it's likely I'd live in Hua Hin, quite like the place.

Far as I know the rear end is a fiberglassed one-off, though I can't say for sure whether he'd done the same/similar for others before or after. The front is kind of a take-off of a gixxer 750, K7 I believe. The guys up Chonburi way are pretty handy with stuff like that, though of course the fit isn't quite the quality you'd find back home. But as you know there's no comparison on price, you can get a pretty decent paint job here for less than $300.

Let me know the next time you're coming around for a six month stint, if we have any programs up Hua Hin way during that time and you're up for it (Amazing Races, Beach Olympics, Survivor Hua Hin, DreamXtreme Challenges, etc.) I could use always an extra expat to help for the day.

Do you have a bike in Hua Hin?

Yeah you're right acidkiller, I never bothered to check online until now to see if the carbs possibly came from another 400. My mechanic (at that time) was looking for replacement Mikuni's at first but even 2nd hand they were super expensive and hard to find, so he got the Keihin and somehow got them on ok.

In fact, stupid as it may sound, I don't know what local mechanics do or put into my bikes 75% of the time (and with 3 90's resto projects going on simultaneously, incl. a beautiful NSR250R and very handsome AX-1 250 Sports Traverse, it can all get a bit too much for my admittedly non-mechanical mind), so I just kind of go with the flow. I tell them when something doesn't work or feel right and one way or another they usually fix it, though it might take them a couple of attempts to get it proper (it's also a language thing, most mechanics here speak limited English and my Thai isn't too great).

Soon as I have time to source a new timing chain I'd really like to get the bike into a better shop for a proper jetting (which unfortunately most mechs here can't really do well). The Keihin's have performed nicely since I got them but I'm sure they could be better tuned.

Btw, maybe it's a stupid question but could changing the carbs affect RPMs and the tach reading? Not sure if it's my imagination (and of course already know the baby gixxer is revvy wench) but after the Keihin's went on, it feels/sounds like the engine's RPM's are a bit more than they're actually reading on the tach compared to before with the [sign in to see URL] this possibly a jetting issue?

um i dont think that the rpm could be off the readings since from what i recall they go through the CDI and everything is electrical. maybe the mechanic had to put the tick over higher due to whatever situation? also it could be that the keihins are made to feed more than the mikunis. the feeling you say could be a few reasons like exhaust, air filter, valve timing and probably more i forget now. i had an old supersport can on my gixxer for quite a while and after i fitted a friends custom made end can on it felt like a completely different bike emoticon

Re: Custom 91 GK76

Hope all are well, been away for a while mostly because my near total re-make of my gixxer was on hold for a while due to delays in getting a second hand engine from Japan.

The engine finally came but had a few problems, so basically my mechanic is just taking the best from both (incl. my bored out cylinder heads/slightly larger pistons from the older engine).

Have also recently got a good set of slingshot carbs, which will replace the (non-stock) Keihin carbs that were on there (turns out the angle of the Keihin isn't a super good match). Also got a new 2nd hand CDI from Singapore to replace the (also non-stock) CDI that was on there.

Got some other goodies ready to go soon as the engine is mostly sorted, incl. new EBC rotors/brake pads front and rear, Goodridge braided lines, EBC clutch rebuild kit, Rizoma brake fluid reservoir & bar ends, front/rear sprockets & RK X-ring chain, Devil titanium/carbon exhaust and a new set of Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP.

Will soon be putting in an order to get some custom stainless steel headers/downpipes made up at local shop, then she'll pretty much be ready for her paint job, in kind of a Jordan Suzuki theme.

I'll post updates as I can, hope to have this baby back on the streets within a month, maybe two.

Looking forward to seeing the rebuild thread develop on this. Sounds like it'll be a little corker when it's finished.

Hi Gary, will get some more pix next time I'm in the shop. One change I'd like to get some opinions of others on is that the frame, swingarm and wheels have been painted black (mostly due to the fact that there were some scuffs and scratches on the frame that mechanic said would be difficult to take out. I actually prefer it with the the normal brushed aluminum look it had but don't want to have to put stickers (as you can see in some of the photos) on the frame to hide imperfections. For sure though the wheels will likely be changed back to white.

I'm looking to have it done up as per the little drawing below; pretty much same design and colors as before but with the addition of Jordan Racing/Jumpman logos.
