New tyres time.

Well, my Avon ST Storm tyres are close to the end of their life and need replacing. They've been brilliant tyres but they are bloody expensive at £220 fitted. I've been looking around and am going to give the Maxxis Supermaxx tyres a go. They seem to have pretty decent reviews at at £100 (!!!) cheaper per pair fitted than the Avons they have to be worth a shot.

This is for my SV650s by the way, I don't know if I can get them for the little gixer as the wheel sizes are a bit old fashioned.

I'll see about posting up a review when I've had them fitted and run them for a while.

Got my new Maxxis Supermax tyres fitted to the bike yesterday. I'm very impressed so far too. I rode the bike into town and back this morning, a 25 mile round trip, first ride since getting the tyres fitted so I wasn't caning it as the tyres need scrubbing in. I had a mixture of wet and dry roads and in the dry I really couldn't detact any difference between the Maxxis tyres and the Avon Storm Ultras I've just taken off the bike. Handling was good, neutral and predictable with no nasty surprises in the bends. I've yet to give it a bit of rice in the wet, I'll wait till the tyres have about 50 or 60 miles on them. Today in the wet I rode like a nun!

Update time.

I'm bloody impressed! These Maxxis Supermax tyres are excellent. I've given them some serious beans over the last couple of days and they've not given an inch. They've had some real stick in the dry, I've used them as I would the Storm ST's I had on before and they stick to the road brilliantly. Good neutral handling, warm up quickly and plenty of feedback. I've started giving them more in the wet too now as my confidence in them grows and they haven't so far let go at all. To be honest I think they are going to be as good in the wet as any other decent tyre - you would have to be behaving like a fool to get these to let go.

Excellent tyres for a lot less money than the bigger names. The final test is going to be that of longevity. We shall see.....
