airbox rubbers and extended throttle cable setting?
right then ive got a G plate GK73A. its had renthal handlebars on it so when the standard cable was on it, whenever you turned the handlebars it would rev the nuts of it (too short obviously). so ive brought a cable which is approx 2" longer than the standard suzuki one, but i have no idea how to set it and ive tried to put the airbox back on a few times but have no luck, ive tried smeering some greese round the rubbers, boiling them reassembling them n putting em back on, brute force n ignorance lol n none of it seems to help get the middle 2 on properly. any more suggestions? im really runnin out of patience with this bike.
any help would be much aprechiated people

Re: airbox rubbers and extended throttle cable setting?
There is a skill in doing this m8...
First off... garage needs to be really nice and warm... so get the heater on in there...
Then a wee bit of LM greese round the seals...
Then line the carbs up to the inlet... tilt them so the bottom the of the carbs go in first... then apply some pressure as you level the carbs to fully push/get them in...
Pain in the ass... had the same problem on my 400 after the carbs had been off for two months, just takes a bit of trying to get em in

Re: airbox rubbers and extended throttle cable setting?
i think you have mis-understood me here furry, the carbs are on the motorbike already, the problem i am having is getting the airbox back on the carbs, there is very little room for movement as the frame is in the way, any help would be much aprechiated.
if i dont get that sorted i might just put some K & N 's on there and re-jet the carbs to suit. anybody done this before or know of anyone thats done it and know how it went?
regards
steve

Re: airbox rubbers and extended throttle cable setting?
Ahhhhhhhhhhhh sorry my mistake lol
I know what you mean... arn't the rubbers on the airbox detachable... put them on that way... then bring the airbox into the equation???

Re: airbox rubbers and extended throttle cable setting?
rubbers aren't detachable from the main section of the airbox as far s i know furry.
Steve, its next to impossible to refit the airbox with the carbs in place. I nearly went mental one evening trying to get the airbox back on with the carbs on the engine. only took 2mis when i took them off, fitted the airbox and then fitted them back onto the engine.
--- Changing for a smaller one!! Will get to it someday!!

Re: airbox rubbers and extended throttle cable setting?
oic Charlie m8... Mr soooki doesn't like making life easy does he?
On both the gk71f and gk76a... they are detachable from the airbox... thought he would have done the same on the gk73a!!!
Sounds like what you said is the only option then... stick the carbs on the airbox before putting the whole lot back on the engine... pain in the ass

Re: airbox rubbers and extended throttle cable setting?
ahh i get what your sayin charlie, however my airbox does have detachable rubbers on, i tried fitting them to the carbs first then puttin the plastic part of the box back over but there just isnt enough room, seems like your constantly battling against the frame however i will try putting the airbox onto the carbs while the carbs arent connected to the engine then put the whole lot back in place and let you know how i get on. just out of curiosity how easy is it to get to the jubilee clips which hold the carbs to the cylinder head when its all back in place?
its gonna be a pain in the arse for me cause ive got an extended throttle cable on mine so dont know exactly where or how to set it so its gonna be off and on a few times before its set right.
thanx for the help guys, shall keep you posted on how it goes. wont be doing it till next weekend though, going to the big bike show in paignton, Devon this weekend, anyone going?

Re: airbox rubbers and extended throttle cable setting?
yea ive seen that post mate, i read through that and tried boiling mine and putting the whole thing back together twice with no luck. im gonna have a go at putting the airbox onto the carbs (while off the engine) and then put the whole lot back on the bike, if that dont work then im going down the 'K n N' route
