Bike not starting ( starter motor ) ( GK73a )

Bike started to play up a bit yesterday. It's not starting. Well it is but only with a bump start emoticon

Had the battery off today and on charge for about 8hrs. Replaced it and was greeted by a very bright neutral light. However pressing the start button only produces a "click" which seems to come from the compartment under the seat. The engine doesn't turn over at all.

Any idea of the cause and how to fix?

Thanks in advance...

Sounds like something stopping the engine turning over, the fact you can bump start it and ride makes me think something is catching in the starter motor, good idea would be to nip that off, check the bushes/contacts in there etc make sure none of the coil has got damaged, could be looking at a new starter motor m8, not the end of the world they go on ebay for about £10! of you could get the wee bits to fix yours (this is all assuming that it's that which is the problem) emoticon

Thanks for replies.

I was begining to think the sollanoid(sp) had gone what with the "click" and all coming from the battery area.
Tonight though it did turn over, only very slowly not enough to fire her up.
So back to the flat battery idea. Turned on the headlights and nearly blinded the poor bugger that happened to be having a nose round the front of the bike! Plenty of juice in there.

I'll whip the starter motor off one evening this week and have a butchers...

Just a quick update. Bike is now starting emoticon

Loads of dust and shite in the starter motor. Good clean out and all is well. Thank goodness, no more bump starting at the petrol station, it was soooo embarrassing!

Good call Mr. Furry emoticon
