Sorted! The 73 master cylinder is identical to the 750SRAD! Maybe worth remembering this one for future reference furry!! emoticon

Re: Brake Master Cylinder Piston Size Please

so why do some people do an upgrade to the 750 srad master cylinder if its exactly the same size piston in the master cylinder emoticon i dont get it??? ive heard many people say the 750 srad master cylinder dramatically improves the brakes on the gk73a but what would actually make them better then if its not the piston size ??? emoticon this is confusing lol anyone ?

Now you're confusing me! Wonder if there's more travel? The one thing that stuck in my mind was why do the japanese use imperial sizing? I would have thought that they would have used metric! ie. 15mm instead of 5/8". Think you've started one here matey!!! emoticon

Re: Brake Master Cylinder Piston Size Please

Well on my 71f...putting the 750 SRAD Master Cylinder on it...has increased the breaking by at least 3 times...front stoppies are us emoticon

It's def 5/8 on the 750 SRAD...not sure about on the 400 though...as I said on mine at least was diffcult to see the actual size!

According to the gsxr400 manual...

(Gk71f)
Master Cylinder bore = 14.000 - 14.043
Master Cylinder Piston diam = 13.957 - 13.984

An inch = 25.4mm

25.4 x (5/8) = 15.875mm

So the SRAD 750 offers a bigger bore size!

im understanding now emoticon but the gk73a comes with the 5/8 as standard so i presume the 750 SRAD upgrade wouldnt really make any difference.

In theory you would be correct...but I sold anonther gsxr750 SRAD to a friend with a GK76a...he reckons it made a huge difference...

Only thing I can put this down to is maybe his origional master cylinder was not very good???

It's made a big difference on mine though, but bore size ratio it 2mm bigger!

I think if the gk73a is showing 5/8...then rather than swapping it with an SRAD one...it might be a better idea to buy a master cylinder piston rebuild kit...they don't cost much and could make a world of difference to your breaking!

yea thats a fair point furry, if both master cylinders are 5/8 then the only thig affecting it really would be age/ wear n tear therefore a rebuild kit could be just as effective as buying one off a SRAD
