We just did about this in biology, it's to do with the light rays landing on the part of your retina with no light senstive cells.
Like that dot and cross thing, where you move the page closer to your face, watching the cross and the dot "disappears".
Also if you put your mouse pointer up the top in the middle, same distance from the green dot as the bottom yellow one, your mouse pointer will "disappear" too.
